Are you generating good feelings among your peers and the people you lead? Feelings are important as they drive human behavior. One of Maya Angelou’s most powerful and insightful quotes reads: “I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” In this presentation you will discover how great leadership works through emotions. Emotional Intelligence is about recognizing, understanding and managing your own emotions, enabling you to recognize, understand and influence the emotions of others.


Presenter:  Evener Scott, MEd

Evener Scott is a learning and organization development professional and experienced leader with over two decades of diversified experience and expertise in delivering workplace solutions for learning, organizational growth and improved effectiveness. His experience in industries such as high-tech, government, academia, energy and healthcare add to his exceptional track record of building trusting and open relationships. Evener is a role model for leading through authentic openness, curiosity, and humility.  Evener demonstrates passion and thought leadership in the development and implementation of solutions and experiences that impact organization effectiveness and overall health. With an emphasis on building leadership capacity and developing organizational culture, he is an advocate for creating healthy change in organizations. As a lifelong learner and advocate for continuous learning, Evener always strives to acquire new knowledge and skills for his own professional growth and development. He holds a Masters of Education degree from Arizona State University and has earned various specialized talent development certifications.

Presenter: Kim Richards, RN, NC-BC

Kim combines her experience in executive recruitment and life coaching to create the components of Self-Care Academy.  Her extensive research on the science of self-care and engagement has been widely published. Kim offers workshops as well as a sustainable program to improve attraction, engagement and retention of talent that improve both employee and patient satisfaction. The components of Self-Care Academy have been successfully implemented by thousands across the US and UK. She is a healthy Nurse Leader evangelist and was honored to write the ANA book, Self-Care and YOU, which describes the elements of burning brightly without burning out. Kim is proud to soon offer her latest book which describes  lessons learned in recovering from traumatic life events, great loss and natural disasters. Kim’s profound message of hope, synchronicity, and ultimate release of expectations will make you laugh, cry and imagine a truly authentic and balanced life that IS within your reach.

Attendance is open to Nurses in (or aspiring to) a leadership role within their organization or community.  Registration fee includes lunch and materials.

Cancellations must be in writing (via email) and received in the AzONL office by November 11 to qualify for a refund.  Cancellations received after this date or "No Shows" will not be entitled to a refund; however, $100 may be applied towards a membership provided the registrant is eligible.  Substitutions are acceptable at any time provided the substituting individual meets the attendance requirements and it is a same registration type substitution (i.e. a member may substitute for another member).  Please contact the AzONL Office at (480) 491-5627 or staff at the on-site registration desk will be happy to assist.

Named for an Arizona visionary leader, the Adda Alexander Conference on Patient Safety is a premiere event that brings together 150+ Nurse Executives and Leaders from around the state to dialogue on Patient Safety, Leadership and Quality. The 1-day in-depth program features two plenary sessions (one on a clinical topic and one on a leadership topic) plus time for networking and the AzONL Annual Meeting.

About Adda Alexander

Adda Alexander, a consummate nurse leader in Arizona, dedicated her 30 year career to advocating for patient safety and quality. She did this in her many nursing roles and through her participation in various nursing organizations. Adda passed away January 17, 2011 after a courageous battle with breast cancer. This conference is dedicated to her in recognition of her selfless contributions.
